About Us
The South African School Band Association (SAMBA) is a non-profit association that was started in 1994. Our main goal is to promote music in our youth and to provide a competitive platform for young musicians to perform and showcase their musical talents in order to obtain the honour of being called the best in the country and qualify for SAMBA National Colours.

Although the Association was initially known as the South African Marching Band Association (SAMBA) from 1997, the association's first constitution was drafted on 29 October 1999 by Mr. C. Reed and Mr. P. Breedt as SAMBA Chairman together with Mr. D.J.F. Smith, Mr. T. Cole, Mr. L. Meijer and Mrs. A. Meijer. It was also during this time that the Association realized the growing interest of concert bands and changed the Association's name to the South African Concert and Marching Band Association
It was later in 2001 that Mr. D.J.F. Smith took the lead as SAMBA Chair and served a 17 year successful term. The association announced that it is making way to newer and younger blood, and the chair was handed over to Mr. A. Prinsloo in September 2017.

It was also during 2017 that the Association realised the need to stay relevant to the communities it serve, and officially changed its name to the South African School Band Association (SASBA) and also became a registered Non-Profit Organisation (200-765 NPO)
